QA Lead - Real-time & Embedded Software
Pune, India
As part of our continued growth, Zumbach Electronic is establishing a new software development team in Pune, India. We are looking for an experienced QA Lead to take ownership of software quality across our industrial measurement and automation products, including our next-generation platform.
As one of the first members of this new team, you will play a key role in defining how software quality is assured across embedded devices, PC-based applications and integrated systems. You will establish testing strategies, build automated test capabilities, and act as the focal point for software issue investigation and release readiness.
Working closely with our engineering, product and service teams in India and Europe, you will help build a robust quality culture, contribute to continuous improvement and support the long-term success of products that are used by customers around the world.
About the Role
Your Main Responsibilities
- Define and maintain software test strategies, quality standards and release-readiness criteria across our product portfolio
- Apply risk-based testing and shift-left quality practices to identify issues as early as possible in the development lifecycle
- Design, build and maintain hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test environments and automated test systems
- Develop and execute test plans covering functional, regression, integration and redundancy testing
- Act as the primary escalation point for software-related issues, reproducing and diagnosing problems reported from the field
- Investigate and isolate software, configuration and environmental issues, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions
- Work closely with our experienced India Service team to develop a strong understanding of customer applications, product deployments and real-world operating conditions
- Collaborate with software developers to improve product quality and ensure effective issue resolution
- Define and implement QA processes, quality gates and testing tools that support long-term product reliability
- Support the growth of the QA function, including mentoring, team development and future recruitment activities
- Collaborate with international colleagues across multiple locations and time zones
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering or a related discipline
- 8+ years of experience in software quality assurance and testing for embedded, industrial or automation products
- Demonstrated passion for software quality and embedded systems
- Hands-on experience building and operating hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test environments across embedded and PC-based systems
- Strong test design and test management skills, including:
– Functional testing
– Regression testing
– Coverage planning
– Long-term lifecycle testing strategies - Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly reproduce, diagnose and isolate issues
- Excellent Python programming skills for:
– Test automation
– HIL orchestration
– Data analysis and log processing - Ability to read and understand C/C++ code to support debugging and technical discussions with development teams
- Experience working in Agile development environments using Scrum and/or Kanban methodologies
- Good understanding of CI/CD workflows, version control systems and modern software development practices
- Demonstrated leadership potential with experience guiding quality initiatives and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with any of the following would be an advantage:
- Industrial communication technologies such as PROFINET, EtherCAT or OPC UA
- Industrial automation systems and PLCs, particularly Siemens platforms
- Bus communication and testing tools such as CAPL
- Embedded Linux environments
- Automated test frameworks and CI/CD-based test pipelines
- API and integration testing methodologies
- Cybersecurity testing and familiarity with requirements related to the European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA)
- Previous experience establishing, scaling or leading a QA function
